Extra Fucks to Give
50 Fucks Given #58
It is in moments of illness that we are compelled to recognize that we live not alone but chained to a creature of a different kingdom, whole worlds apart, who has no knowledge of us and by whom it is impossible to make ourselves understood: the body.
Marcel Proust
I’ve been terribly sick for a week and since I’m out of state, my Medicaid is useless, even at the hospital unless it is truly an emergency of incapacitation, life or death. I went to hospital out of state once, after an accident caused by a drunk driver, but because insurance and a police report were involved, Medicaid refused to cover it.
So, I found out the hard way with a $2,000 bill that even in emergencies, state Medicaid may refuse to pay, honoring the longstanding U.S. tradition of telling the sick and impoverished, Good [fucking] luck.
In case anyone needed a reminder that people continue to need healthcare across arbitrary state lines. This country is perpetually exhausting.
