Defined:
absolutely not, complete rejection
In a sentence:
“Yeah, no, fuck that.”
“They won’t pay but say it’s great for exposure, fuck that.”
Fuck That is incredibly useful. It’s a step beyond “fuck no," which typically isn’t followed by reasons or justification. Fuck That, on the other hand, leaves room for explanation. I find a lot of usage includes justification against doing or believing something. Which might explain why it’s so popular in discussions about work or professional circumstances.
Many years ago, I was suffering from job-related insomnia. Could not sleep properly for months on end. I loved my job, but I couldn’t tolerate the incompetence of the organization, nor my useless, idiot boss. Tossing and turning one night, I searched for relaxing videos. And stumbled on my favorite meditation, Fuck That: An Honest Meditation, by Jason Headley.
Headley has a perfect meditation voice. He could seriously do guided voice for a living. His short and hilarious meditation didn’t help me sleep, per say, but it did help me unwind and put things into perspective.
As we start another year of work, keep this meditation in mind for professional and personal endeavors. “Breathe in strength, breathe out bullshit.”
